Questions & answers

Everything you'd want to know before you apply.

If we haven't answered it here, just ask — we read every email.

I don't have a startup idea yet. Can I still join?

Yes — and you're exactly who we built this for. Midair gates by stage and commitment, not by having a polished idea. "I don't have an idea yet" is a valid starting line here. We'll put you in a room with people figuring it out too, plus prompts and peers to help you find the problem worth your next few years.

I'm still at my day job. Is that okay?

Completely. Plenty of founders start nights-and-weekends, and the leap rarely happens all at once. A circle is a great place to find the signal — and the nerve — to go full-time when the time is right for you.

How much does it cost?

Applying is free. Membership is a proposed founding-member rate of $125/month (or $1,250/year) — locked in for founding members. That's roughly a tenth of what established-CEO communities charge. We're also reserving a few pay-what-you-can spots for founders between jobs, because gating people out by money is exactly what we're against. (Pricing is being finalized — see the Membership page.)

How much time does it take?

A two-hour, in-person session every two weeks, plus a light weekly check-in with your circle. Enough to build real momentum and real relationships; not so much that it competes with the thing you're actually building.

Where do you meet?

In person, around the Bay — San Francisco, Oakland and the East Bay, the Peninsula, and the South Bay. We match you to a circle near you so showing up is easy. Proximity is the point.

How are circles formed?

By stage and by neighborhood. We hand-match each circle of six-to-eight so the people in the room are at a similar altitude and close enough to meet without a commute. No randomized mega-rooms.

Is it confidential?

Yes. What's said in the circle stays in the circle — full stop. That's one of our three founding principles (Confidential, Candid, Committed), and the facilitator holds the room to it.

Isn't this just Hampton, YC, or a mastermind?

No. Hampton is for established CEOs with millions in revenue. YC Startup School is a free global MOOC. Masterminds are usually for people who've already made it. Midair is for the very start — warm, local, in person, and built for founders who've jumped and haven't landed yet. If you're past product-market-fit, we'll genuinely point you to Hampton.

Do you take equity?

Never. We're not investors and we don't want a slice of your company. Midair is a membership community, not a fund. Your cap table is yours.

What happens after I apply?

We read every application and reach out for a short, friendly chat — no whiteboard interview, no gauntlet. If it's a fit, we place you into a founding circle near you. Because we're brand new, founding cohorts form on a rolling basis as we reach enough founders in each part of the Bay.
